MUNCIE, Ind. — Months after reopening the 1940’s drive in, a Muncie landmark hosted its first annual Drive-In Cruise-In Car Show. Presented by Twisted-Wrenches Car Club and hosted by Burkie’s Drive In, the car show took place on Sunday, September 10.
Show cars filled Burkie’s Drive-In parking lot dating from a 2016 Corvette Stingray to a 1928 Model T Ford.
Mindy Gregory, one of the original founders of Twisted-Wrenches Car Club, said the show very successful.
“It was a complete success having 55 registered cars fill up two parking lots for our first time at Burkie’s.”
The car show brought in people from all over Indiana. Rob Beeman of Wabash, Indiana said this was his second show of the day.
“I was actually at another car show in Matthews and I looked this one up on my GPS and saw that it was only 20 minutes away, so I came on over.“
Beeman drove in, in his 1941 Plymouth Special Deluxe. He said he enjoys coming to the shows because the money goes towards a good cause and he enjoys meeting the people.
“I love coming to these shows just to meet the people and give back to the community that hosts the shows,” Beeman said.
The money raised comes from registration fees, $12 per car. During the show tickets are sold for a 50/50 drawing, half going to the winning ticket and the other half goes towards a charity of Twisted-Wrenches choice.
“The funds from Burkie’s and the show at Cammack Station, coming up this weekend, will go towards the victims of Hurricane Harvey,” Gregory said.
Twisted-Wrenches Car Club already sent money to help displaced animals of Hurricane Harvey, but these aren’t the only charitable donations the club has made.
Their second show of the year the club was able to raise $1,200 for a Muncie man fighting stage four-melanoma malignant skin cancer.
Gregory emphasized that the money they raise generally stays within Delaware County so that they can give back to their own community.
The next show Twisted-Wrenches Car Club will present is be this Sunday from 4pm-8pm at Cammack Station.
Gregory said it’s likely that they will be having car shows at Burkie’s Drive-In monthly next summer.
