Country music is inspiring and positive as is, but Ball State University’s Chi-Omega chapter really knows how to tap into these emotions and tie them into an inspiring event. Tonight at 6 p.m., the well-known national sorority will be hosting a benefit concert in the sports and recreation building here on Ball State’s campus. Every year, the philanthropy that this sorority raises money for is the nationally known Make-A-Wish Foundation and a kid of their choosing involved in the program. Every kid chosen by the Make-A-Wish Foundation is either suffering from a terminal disease or some kind of medical disability. This particular chapter of Chi-Omega at Ball State choses one child that they raise money for in an effort to grant their wish.

In years past, Chi-Omega’s benefit concert has had some very well known country artists such as Dylan Scott. This year, the benefit concert will have the well-known Yorktown native, Seth Cook. Cook has opened for artists such as Rascal Flatts and Luke Bryan. Now, Cook is passing on his opening act torch to the talented Ball State telecommunications student Eric Heinzman, by allowing Heinzman to open for him. With a singer/songwriter taste, Heinzman adds a different sound to the benefit concert and hopes to attract even more people of different music tastes to the event. “This event means more to me than just the opportunity to perform, but it’s the biggest event I’ve ever played,” Heinzman says.

All proceeds of this benefit concert will go to the chosen Make-A-Wish kid. “It’s all about how much money we can raise for someone who really needs our help,” says one chairperson of the benefit concert event, Rachel Ellis. “We kept it local and tried to recruit a student with musical talent and was willing to help us and our Make-A-Wish kid. That’s why we picked Eric to open for Seth Cook.” The concert is a general admission setting so if someone is a big fan of Seth Cook, they may want to get to the event early and get front row. The doors for the event open at 5:30 p.m. Come down to the benefit concert to enjoy some amazing music and also get the satisfaction of helping out a person in need.
