MUNCIE, Ind. – Beer was flowing, the food was hot, and the music kept coming as Two Cats Café hosted their very first Acoustic Night on Friday, October 6th right in the village. For four hours acts such as Eric Heinzman, Ethan Smith, Nicholson File and more performed for the patrons of the small café, providing customers with a new experience that is sure to bring them back.
Laoch Armstrong, a resident of Yorktown, heard about the Acoustic Night through a friend on Facebook. The event interested him because he had never been to Two Cats and is a huge fan of acoustic covers and songs. “I thought it was a good opportunity to meet new people and finally see what Two Cats Café was,” said Armstrong, “I’ve seen so much hype about it from friends I figured it was a good excuse.” Armstrong enjoyed his experience, and after seeing Eric Heinzman’s set, knew he’d be coming back for more acoustic nights and more banana crepes. “I’ve never had such good food at a café before. I’d never miss a chance to come back.” Said Armstrong.
The idea for Acoustic Night started with Two Cats Café’s owner, Basam Helwani. Helwani, since the semester started, has been in contact with many student groups to put together events like this to bring the community together at the café. “We wanted to encourage local performers to come here and perform here,” said Helwani. “This is one of the many events that will be here this year.” From the start, Helwani wanted to be a platform for the students to come and have a place to work, show off their talents, show their artwork, and just have a place to hang out.
Eric Heinzman, a Ball State sophomore, was the first to perform at Acoustic Night at Two Cats Café. He even performed at Kai Omega’s Make a Wish Foundation Benefit concert on October 13th, opening for big name artist Seth Cooke. Heinzman loves his music, and feels being a part of this benefit concert will be the opportunity of a lifetime.
Helwani hopes that events like this that gives students a platform draws more in and shows them what Two Cats Café really is: a place for students. “Many people they heard good stuff about two cats,” said Helwani. “Many people tell me, ‘We’ve heard good stuff’ but because its not a chain restaurant, they won’t come in. Anybody who has heard good stuff about us get some guts and come try it here.”
